Advantages and disadvantages of lithium and lead-acid batteries for solar street lights

Solar street lights use clean energy, using panels to convert solar energy into light energy to provide lighting services. They are widely used in both urban and rural areas of China. Not only street lights, but also garden lights, etc., use solar power. Solar street lights lithium battery will be the solar panel of electric energy storage, at night can be illuminated.

As we all know, lithium batteries are widely used in today’s society and are an advanced type of battery. The lithium solar lamp lithium batteries use mainly lithium iron phosphate energy storage batteries. So energy-efficient and clean solar lights, are they all using lithium iron phosphate batteries?

In fact, in use at the same time, there are also lead-acid batteries. Compared to lithium iron phosphate batteries, they have the following disadvantages  :

1.low energy density

The same 48v12Ah, lead-acid battery is only 33Wh, while the solar street lamp lithium battery up to 125Wh

2. Lifetime

Lead-acid batteries have 60% capacity at 300 cycles, while LiFePO4 batteries still have 80% capacity at 1500 cycles.

3. Not environmentally friendly.

Lead-acid batteries produce pollution, and lithium-ion batteries are recognized as environmentally friendly batteries.

With all these drawbacks, why are lead-acid batteries still in massive and widespread use? Mainly because it is a mature product, cheap and easy to maintain. So it is still the mainstream of the market.

But with the restrictions of national industrial policy, the market share is declining. The market share of lithium-ion battery for solar lights is rising gradually with a bright future.
