Why do communication base stations use lithium batteries?

In the past, lead-acid batteries were mostly used as storage batteries for communication base stations. The battery plays a crucial role in maintaining the normal operation of the communication system and is the last line of defense for the normal operation of the communication system. Each base station has a battery as a backup power source for storing electrical energy and responding to special situations such as power grid abnormalities.

From the current usage situation, lead-acid base station batteries generally have a rapid capacity decline and a very short service life. Most communication base stations have a designed lifespan of over 10 years for batteries, and the normal service life should be guaranteed to be 8 years. However, in actual use, ordinary lead-acid batteries can only last for 3-5 years, and some even end their lifespan in just 1-2 years.

For lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries have significant advantages: under the same battery capacity specifications, the volume of lithium batteries is smaller, about 40% smaller than lead-acid batteries; Under the same storage conditions, the storage life of lithium batteries is longer, about 3-8 times that of lead-acid batteries; Under the same battery capacity specifications, lithium batteries are lighter, about 40% lighter than lead-acid batteries; In the same battery usage environment, the number of charging and discharging cycles of lithium batteries is about 10-30 times that of lead-acid batteries. Therefore, the use of lithium batteries in communication base stations is an inevitable trend.
